Description
Between December 9, 1863 and January 18, 1864, the University of Alabama hired out the labor of thirty-eight enslaved individuals to build fortifications on the campus in preparation for Union troop arrival. The three documents included in this item, two of which are near duplicates, list the names of those individuals and their enslaver. Both reports also mark out the individual dates each worked along with the pay provided to their enslaver. Due to the nature of the document, transcription abilities are limited. We have done our best to represent them accurately by providing the total number of days each individual worked along with their entry.
