"This morning, at 5 o’clock, our good & faithful old servant, Lydia, died. She had a disease of the womb, which had been growing on her for years; and she had lingered for several months. But the Lord was good to her, & she was saved to be sustained & cheered by his love and grace. She died in peace. She had been a member of the Baptist Church, first in Charleston, then in Tuskaloosa, for a number of years. Her age was about 55. She had come to me from the family of John Frierson – of Charleston – She was a good woman.
I had her decently interred in the burial ground of the city."

"This day I concluded the purchase of our old Nurse, Lydia, and obtained a bill of sale from Asa Russ the husband of Mary Frierson, who obtained her according to the decree of partition of the equity court in this district as recorded in the Registrar’s office, from the estate of her Father, the late John Frierson of St. John’s Berkley. The price I have paid is $250 – and she is about fifty years of age – see a curious note about this woman in a small book of mine under date of June 22 1829."
