My Dear Madam.

I recd on Saturday a letter from Mr. Alfred Hatch, of whom we hired a baker, offering to let us having him for the current year, at the same price we paid the preceding year, that is, $20 pr. month, without his clothes.
I cannot answer his letter until I hear from you relative to Larkin –
Larkin is not a better cook than Mr. Hatch, but we are willing to give the same price for him – and will keep him if the terms proposed are agreeable to you.
Will you please reply by the svt.

[190] My Dear Madam.
The Surgeon of the Corps reports Larkin to be affected with a disease which renders him wholly unsuitable as a Cook, and the object of this note is to inquire whether you are willing to cancel the contract for his hire to the Unty the present year – the Unty paying for his [1 word illegible]…already rendered at the price [1 work illegible]… when I took him on trial, namely $30 pr. mo.
A reply is desired by the return of the bearer.
