"Last night, between 9 & 10 o'clock, our woman, Sabra, was delivered of a female child, named Kitty. It was large & well-formed, but from some cause, was not able to give the usual signs of entrance into life. It just breathed. After a little care & pain, it was brought to - and now appears well. The old mid-wife, Nelly, did not arrive till some time after the birth of the child."

"I find that, in our absence, viz. - on Sat. morn May 9. The young girl, Kitty, (non compos) after successive fits of more than usual severity, died, Sat. Morn: May 9th/63 - She was born Mar. 20/50. Charles had her decently buried, on Sunday afternoon; service performed in the basement of the Meth Epis Church, by one of their colored men. - She had been subject to fits, from a very early age, owing to a fall she had, by the carelessness of a little turn - striking her head on the floor."
